CHASM Co-Founder Robert Praino Honored with SEMI FlexTech's 2023 FLEXI Award for Environmental Sustainability
FLEXI Award recognizes leadership in advancing cement decarbonization in new semiconductor fabs through US Department of Energy proposed initiative
CANTON, Mass, August 3, 2023 – CHASM Advanced Materials (CHASM), a leader in advanced carbon nano materials technology, is pleased to announce that CHASM Co-Founder and Chief Innovation Officer Robert Praino, has been honored with one of the coveted 2023 FLEXI Awards presented July 13th during SEMI FlexTech’s annual conference, co-located with SEMICON West 2023 in San Francisco.
The FLEXI Awards recognize innovations and other outstanding accomplishments in flexible hybrid electronics (FHE) and are selected by a committee of industry and academic peers.
Mr. Praino received the FLEXI Award for Environmental Sustainability, recognizing his leadership in working with the U.S. Department of Energy on a proposed project to advance the decarbonization of cement through the CHASM NTeC®-C additive that reduces the amount of cement in concrete, which could eliminate 0.7 metric tons of CO2 per ton of concrete. For new semiconductor fabs between 8 million and 15 million square feet, the additive could reduce CO2 from the floor construction alone by 18,000 to 36,000 metric tons, making a significant impact on CO2 reduction in the semiconductor industry.
In his acceptance remarks, Bob had this to say: “On behalf of the CHASM team, I’d like to thank FlexTech for this recognition. We are quite proud to have extended our carbon nanotube technology beyond FHE to create additives for cement and battery materials. In the case of cement, we have demonstrated a significant opportunity for decarbonization, with cement representing 7% of world-wide CO2 emissions. For energy storage, carbon nanotubes have been recognized by the U.S. Department of Energy as a vital compositional additive to enhance lithium-ion capacity and power attributes, and validation of performance by Argonne National Laboratory this year has been excellent news for us.”
