The integration of carbon nanotubes into standard lithium-ion battery materials has for many years been expected to improve performance and safety because of their inherent conductivity and material strength. The challenge, however, has been the cost-effective integration of carbon nanotube material, which can be expensive, into a traditionally inexpensive material set.
To overcome these challenges, CHASM has developed our own carbon nanotube battery materials using a novel way of incorporating CNTs directly onto the surface of other carbon-based and graphitic battery materials.
These "hybrid" electrode materials are demonstrating improved material integrity, lower internal resistance (and heat) and substantially increased surface area. The result is a lithium-ion battery that holds more energy, charges faster, and is safer to operate.
